As so many I’ve spoken to since Tuesday night, I’m very excited for the possibilities that having President Elect Obama in office means.  As he and McCain noted in their speeches, the problems won’t get fixed overnight.  Why do Americans think that any problem is fixable in 5 minutes — TV?   Yet, if we can indeed find the middle ground again, we just might make progress and remember what it’s like to compromise in this country.  Under Bush everything became black and white, with no grey areas in which to discuss possible solutions.  For me, the need for our country to take care of its own is acute:  I see too many children and their families in deep need of many things.  Its time for each of us to understand that we have to give a little so that all may live well.
