Luggage and Sony e-book

February 11th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Sabbatical trip, travel

Hubby and I had a great weekend of going out with friends to dinner and a museum; and generally picking up the house and a first go-around at packing.

We didn’t do badly the first time with stuffing everything we want to bring into the suitcases. I think we’re only a few items away from actually being able to take two of those small suitcases that business folk travel with that you don’t have to check. But, we’re not doing that! We are using one of those small suitcases, and the second is a medium size case. But the second larger one will be half empty. It can weigh up to 50 lbs in accordance with the TSA regs; but we’ve got it down to about 34 at the moment. I think it’ll be under 30 by the time we’re done, if not less. The idea is that we’ll be able to use the spare space to fill with those things we pick up along the way. I know that eventually in four months, we’re going to get tired of wearing the same 5 shirts; so we’ll buy a souvenir t-shirt, and such.

We also have a few things for our trip over with the Israel tour group that can eventually go into that large suitcase once we don’t need them in our carry-ons.

So, with just a couple of days left, the chore list is fairly short as well. We even have the e-book reader loaded and ready to go. Although some paper will go with us, this will enable us to cart a lot of our favorites! We are huge readers and this will definitely be part of how we’ll lessen our load. When we bought it, we got a 100 classics free, and there are several sites where you can download books for free. They might not be the newest and most popular, but great reading nonetheless. You can buy many of the recent books, but really not what we’ll do with the gadget. We’re been using it for a few weeks and we really like how it works.

The real count-down begins.
