How did I get from 83 to 73? Easy! First, somehow I mis-counted by a few days, but more importantly, I took a break. I went on a Spring Break trip! Another “last,” I suppose. I understand in retirement time runs a bit differently. But, for this semester, I’m still on an academic calendar and it was spring break. So hubby and I went off on a road trip to the shore. A winter shore as New England is refusing to recognize spring so far, but a break nonetheless. Chilly, lovely days of sleeping in, not answering a million emails or reading anything of importance. In fact I read a really fascinating book called “Empty Mansions.”
I’m still on break for four more days, but I’m home and return to thinking about the end of the beginning of something new in my life. I talk almost everyday with my hubby about what it will be like to be retired from my job, and what and how I’ll manage my days and time. I think about it often.
The official return receipt from filing my retirement application with the state arrived while I was away, and so the paperwork is started. I think I’m beginning to really look forward to this new road.
I’ll let you know when I finish counting down.
