Lists: bucket or otherwise

February 6th, 2008 · No Comments · Sabbatical trip, Uncategorized

Lists seem to be all the rage this week! This past Sunday, our favorite Sunday morning news show: CBS Sunday Morning (what else?) had a fun story about the popularity of list making in American society. Last night, hubby and I went to see the movie, The Bucket List, with two of our favorite actors. (By the way, you’ll find more than one curmudgeon review out there — this is a movie to enjoy for the sake of it, not to pull it apart as to how “possible” it is to do that much on their list!)

And, there is my list! It seems to get shorter in some ways: the redone will will be signed and filed on Friday, the bills are paid ahead that can be, the insurance documentation just about complete, not to mention the 10 page (yes, 10-page) booklet about the house for the housesitter (go ahead – stand in one room of your house and figure out all the quirks you need to tell someone else living temporarily in your home).

And, in others, the list gets longer. This one seems to be the small stuff: new battery for wristwatch, shoelaces, where’s the travel hairbrush? and such.

I realized that the most important things really don’t go on lists, do they? List of what isn’t on our lists: excitement, anxiety, anticipation, worry, wonder, thrill, sadness, and more feelings than I think words exist for (at least in English).
